Ball Girl #057: On a scale of 1- Brooklyn Nets, how much is your life falling apart right now?

If you don’t get the joke, DW, I’ll explain...

Every decent player is fleeing the Brooklyn Nets like my ex fled from commitment. JK. He wasn’t my ex...because he fled before he could be.

Can I have your number?

  • 3: Number of minutes Wimbledon ball girls/boys are tested to stand completely still. Around 250 ball boys and girls are selected from 27 nearby schools (all approx. 15 y/o). Each is expected to attend weekly training sessions of 2.5hrs, and if they don’t meet Wimbledon’s standards, they aren’t allowed to take part in the tournament.

TL;DR

🏁 Carlos Sainz took top podium at the British Grand Prix this past weekend; thats definitely one strategy to surpass the six foot mark as a 5’10 KING. This race was bonkers because of an insanely terrifying crash for Guanyu Zhou on Lap 1 (don’t worry he’s okay)

🏒 The San Jose Sharks hired Mike Grier as their new GM, making him the first black general manager in NHL history. 🎉 Grier himself played in the NHL for 14 years as a right wing.

⚾ New York Mets’ pitcher Max Scherzer returned from injury, striking out 11 batters in his first appearance since May 18th.

Golf

J.T. Poston wins at John Deere

  • The 29-year old has officially notched his second Tour victory at the 2022 John Deere Classic this past weekend. Poston finished at 21-under after three strong rounds (65, 67, 69), leaving him three strokes clear of Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo (T2 at -18). J.T. bags $1.278 million for his win.

LIV Golf blows away PGA tournament payouts…yet again

  • Branden Grace won Portland's LIV Golf Invitational Series at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club…and walked away with $4.0 million. This is nearly 1/3 of what he made in his entire PGA Tour career. Grace won by 2 shots, finishing -13. Second place Carlos Ortiz took home $2.125 million, and third place finishers Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson both took home $1.275 million (almost exceeding Poston’s payout at John Deere).

Next Up?

  • Barbasol Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club (Champion Trace Course) in Nicholasville, Kentucky, where the players will compete for a piece of the $3.7 million purse

Tennis

Final stretch at Wimbledon. What’s left?

  • MEN: In the men’s quarterfinal, Djokovic defeated Sinner (3-2), and Norrie took down Goffin (3-2) yesterday, while Fritz and Nadal, and Marin and Kyrgios will face off this morning.

  • WOMEN: In the women’s quarterfinal, Jabeur took down Bouzkova and Maria defeated Niemeier yesterday, while Tomljanovic and Rybakina and Halep and Anisimova will face off this morning. What are the highlights, you ask? World #1 Iga Swiatek was swept by Alizé Cornet in the third round. Cornet was later knocked out by Tomljanović, but we’re still shocked to see Swiatek go.

F1

God save the queen and Guanyu Zhou

Zhou was involved in Hollywood-level crash on just the first lap of the race. Ball Girl Recap here. xoxo, Ball Girl

  • This past weekend we had the British Gand Prix which kicked off in an Annabelle-horror movie level crash for Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou. George Russel (Mercedes) immediately pulled over to help Zhou disqualified himself from the race in doing so- a sportsmanship KING. Zhou was okay and the race went on after a 1 hour delay.

  • Finally, we get a plot twist in this season of F1 with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz winning the whole shabang. This was his first ever Grand Prix victory- guess we can’t sing like a virgin anymore. Meanwhile Red Bulls Sergio Perez came in second- he’s losing his fidelity but winning his races- and Lewis Hamilton came in third. Grandpas can win too.

Soccer

CR7 breadcrumbs Manchester United

  • Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary Portuguese player, is trying to have his cake and eat it too. After a tough last season with Manchester United, it became apparent that he was unhappy and might want to leave the club. But he did he communicate his feelings clearly and fairly? Absolutely not. Instead, he did some good ole fashioned bread-crumbing, and now both he and ManU are in a tough spot. Ronaldo has to scramble to find a club willing to fund his expensive signing, and Manchester has to find a replacement worthy of CR7 and sign them on short notice.
