Ball Girl #077: We are about to spread the ultimate rumor

no shame my gossip eaters

Are Tom Brady and Gisele on the road to - dare I say it- DIVORCE?!?! Our picture-perfect couple is rumored to be in marital purgatory, and the evidence is concerning at best. Brady has been away from Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s preseason training since August 11th due to “personal things”. Even though he is objectively the GOAT, this long of a leave, in preseason no less, is rarely granted. There are whispers that Gisele is upset with him for un-retiring, for putting football above family first once again. Very little is known about the situation other than if this rumor becomes fact, I'll need to up my therapy sessions to twice a week because love iso

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen: A Timeline of Their Relationship

Can I have your number?

56: Longest hitting streak in the MLB, which goes to Joe DiMaggio in the 1941 MLB season. The New York Yankees center fielder recorded at least one hit in 56 consecutive games.

TLDRs

🥊 Leon Edwards pulled one of the greatest upsets in UFC history this past weekend, knocking out reigning champion Kamaru Usman via a brutal head kick with just one minute left in the fight. Read on for more.

⛳️Patrick Cantlay won the BMW Championship this past weekend, defending his title after winning the event last year. Next up? The top 30 players are off to Atlanta for the Tour Championship next weekend. Read on for more.

⚾ The NY Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in an epic showdown last night. Read on for more.

🏈 Weekend #2 of preseason games is done and things are starting to heat up. Read on for the highlights.

🎓🏈 The Texas Longhorns have crowned their prom queen: Quinn Ewers was named their starting QB. This is a BFD because Ewers does not fit the mold of bell of the ball, to say the least. He’s a red-shirt freshman, a transfer from Ohio State, and stole the starting spot from returning QB Hudson Card (Poor Hudson. He will probs have to transfer now himself for a shot of starting again).

🏁 Guess who’s back, back again?! That’s right, F1 fans — summer beak is over for our drivers as they return for the second half of the season with the Belgian Grand Prix this upcoming weekend. My Sundays just got that much less scary again, and thank god.

UFC

“WE WROTE HIS OBITUARY”

  • A direct quote from the announcers after Leon Edwards stunned the UFC world this past weekend. He pulled off a come from behind, upset victory of reigning champion Kamaru Usman. The drama of this match up cannot be overstated.

  • Usman stepped into the octagon Saturday considered the best boxer in the world. The man had basically never lost a fight (excluding a loss very early in his career) and already won a previous match against Edwards in 2015. But oh my, how much can change in 7 years.

  • So, what happened in the fight? Edwards was getting his 🍑 handed to him but survived until the fifth and final round… at which point, the announcers start joking about how he looks “broken” and “utterly defeated”. With one minute left, Edwards throws a left hand jab. Usman dodges to his right. At that exact same moment, Edwards delivers a head kick to Usman’s temple and DOWN 👏 USMAN 👏 GOES 👏. KNOCKED OUT, ON HIS BACK, LOOKING LIKE HE SAW GOD (Or Taylor Swift. One and the same right?).

  • You need to watch this for yourself to appreciate the incredible memes that are coming out of this match. Biggest takeaway… am I a UFC fan now???

Joe Rogan’s reaction was almost as good as the match itself

MLB

  • The NY Mets are unstoppable. Even with a team depleted by injuries, they won 3 of 4 games against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend. They’re now 4 wins ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East division.

  • Last night’s game was one to write home about. After the Mets established a solid lead, the Phillies crept back in and tied things up in the 8th inning. They might have had a shot, except Mets’ outfielder Mark Canha’s bat was on fire. He hit his second homer of the night in the 9th to break the tie.

  • The real MVPs are Mets’ fans, though. Check out the sea of blue (Mets fans) at the Phillies’ stadium:

NFL

Weekend 2 of preseason games down… Here are the highlights!

  • KaVontae Turpin (Dallas Cowboys) played the game of his life against the Chargers on Saturday. He ran the ball back for a touchdown twice, dipping ducking diving and dodging around guys in order to do so. He even made the NFL’s social media bios… That’s when you know you’ve made it.

  • Rookie quarterback Malik Willis (Tennessee Titans) impressed everyone with a strong performance in the Titan’s second preseason game on Saturday. Not only can he throw some epic touchdown passes, but he can run the ball, too:

  • Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins quarterback, is taking his job seriously. He showed up to the Dolphins’ game on Saturday five hours early to work on the team’s new offense. Wish I had the same work ethic but you won’t catch me anywhere near midtown before 9am….

Golf

2/3 FedEx Cup Playoff tournaments done after this weekend at BMW

  • Patrick Cantlay does it again, notching his second BMW victory, 8th PGA Tour Title, and 3rd playoff victory. Cantlay finished 14-under, followed by Scott Stallings in 2nd (-13), and Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler T3 (-11). Cantlay’s finish puts him in second place (behind Scheffler) heading into the Tour Championship next weekend. Cantlay played well all weekend, and his birdie on 17 after the tee shot of the day and a few lucky bounces didn’t hurt.

  • The below 30 players (in ranked order 1→30) will compete in the Tour Championship next weekend at East Lake in Atlanta; a spot on this list guarantees a payday of at least $500k (for last place), with potential for $15mil (1st place). But arguably more importantly for these guys, a spot in the Tour Championship gets these 30 players into next season’s Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship as well as a number of other important events.

Banter at the BMW

  • Rory McIlroy and Scott Stallings were paired together in the third round of the BMW Championship this past weekend when a fan threw a remote-control ball onto the green. After a couple attempts at swatting the ball away with his putter, McIlroy picked up the ball and chucked it in the water. The spectator was promptly escorted out of the tournament.
