Ball Girl #108: Ready to be violently humbled this Monday?
RIP to my self confidence

If you ever thought you had any amount of athleticism, we hate to break it to you, but you’ve got nothing compared to this guy, Moshe Lederfien, who ran the New York marathon yesterday while balancing a pineapple on his head. The NYC Marathon took place throughout the city boroughs this Sunday.
He won the NYC Marathon. #tcs

Can I have your number?
6: The original number of NHL teams… in fact, they went by the “Original Six,” which included the Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Since the first round of expansion in 1967, the league has grown to 31 teams.
TLDRs
⛳Russell Henley won the OHL Classic yesterday, finishing 23-under for the tournament, a solid 4 strokes ahead of Brian Harman who finished second. Henley brings home $1.48mm for his win, while Harman takes $894k.
🏀 The Milwaukee Bucks won their 9TH STRAIGHT GAME yesterday — the longest streak in franchise history. They are the only team in the NBA that is still undefeated. Meanwhile, as if you hadn’t heard enough Nets’ drama, the team gave controversial forward Kyrie Irving a 5-term ultimatum to return to play. Rumors are SWIRLING that Kyrie is going to retire mid-season rather than meet them. Stay tuned because that would be the cherry on top of the Nets’ drama sundae.
🎓🏈 This weekend of college football was straight up…🦇💩 crazy. Let’s review. 1) Tennessee was ranked #1 by the College Playoff Committee out of NOWHERE only to get thumped 27-13 by true #1 Georgia. This game was a bigger letdown than Anchor Man II 2) Notre Dame UPSET CLEMSON whom the Playoff Committee also controversially put at five. Clemson haters are living their best life right now — like, me after a night out with Domino’s Cheesy Bread levels of happiness. 3) ANOTHER UPSET was LSU beating Alabama (!?!?!) 32-31 in overtime with a trick play 2 point conversion. Holy whirlwind of a weekend… Anddddd break! Until next Saturday.
🏈 Underdog teams are THRIVING in the NFL these days. Most notably, the NY Jets defeated the Buffalo Bills, 20-17, thanks to stellar performances by QB Zach Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner. Get Johnny his ice cream!!!!!! (If you are looking for a pick-me-up on this fine Monday, read up on Johnny and his interview with Sauce Gardner). Meanwhile, the Raiders blew another double digit lead, the Packers lost their fifth straight game, and the Kansas City Chiefs just barely got past the Tennessee Titans after an OT nail biter.
HE DID IT! JOHNNY GOT HIS ICE CREAM CAKE!

🏒 The Bruins are heating UP on the ice with a 10-2 record. That’s the second best record in all of the NHL right now, behind the Vegas Golden Knights at 11-2. HOWEVER, that’s not what has the fans talking. Late last week, the team made a controversial announcement that they were signing draftee Mitchell Miller. FYI: Miller was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in 2020 but dropped when the public learned that Miller was formally SUED for bullying a black, developmentally disable classmate. This isn’t even a Disney villain — this is straight American-Horror-story messed up 💀. Well, thank GOD the Bruins came to their senses (or were SHAMED) and dropped Miller. Karmas only a b*tch if you are!!!

The Houston Astros win the World Series!!!
In game 6, Yordan Alvarez hit what ended up being the game winning home run on Saturday night to clinch it for the ‘Stros.
Playing this on repeat.

While Alvarez and Pena came up big offensively for the Astros, it was their bullpen who really shut things down. Framber Valdez pitched on Saturday, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks. Other pitchers who performed: Justin Verlander, one of the biggest pitchers in baseball today, finally got a World Series win, and reliever Ryan Pressly had a huge save in Game 5 to keep the ‘Stros in the series.
But the guy having his main character moment right now is Jeremy Peña Pena came up HUGE in his rookie season (yeah, he’s a rookie 🤯). The ‘Stros asked him to replace legend Carlos Correa and he stepped up in a big way — like, he had a record breaking season. He is the first position player to win a golden glove award, ALCS MVP, and World Series MVP in one season.
Jeremy Peña was asked to step in at shortstop for Carlos Correa as a 25-year-old rookie
🔸Gold Glove (first ever by rookie SS)

🔸.345 BA | 4 HR | 8 RBI in playoffs
🔸ALCS & WS MVP

This World Series win is the Astros’ second in the last 5 years, and cements their standing as a top dawg in the MLB. They’ve worked really hard to build a good farm system (read: the minor leagues that feed into the majors) and its paying off — most of the guys on this year’s team came up in the Astros system.

A huge reason the Astros have had so much success in recent years is Dusty Baker, team manager. At 73, he’s one of the oldest managers in the game, and finally got his World Series ring in his 25th season! And he is only the third Black manager ever to win a World Series.
Johnnie B. Baker Jr. was nicknamed 'Dusty' because of how much he played in the dirt as a kid.
That dirt ended up leading him to an 18-year MLB career and 30-year managerial career.
At 73, the future Hall of Famer just added one more achievement:
World Series-winning manager.

Oh, and one of the craziest things to come out of this World Series? The biggest payout ever in sports betting history was awarded to Mattress Mack, totaling $75 million dollars. But it’s not all going into Mack’s pockets… He put the money down as a promotion to all of his customers in Houston to give them free mattresses. 🥲
